After the Olive Oil Sommelier training event and related tasting of the best olive oils participating in the competition and selected by the popular jury in Brazil, the final selection of the ARMONIA Competition oils ended on October 26, 2022 at Hotel Ristorante Il Gabbiano, Via Nicola Morigi 10/A, Parma.
The Armonia People’s Choice event involved journalists, gastronomy experts, chefs, restaurateurs, cooking enthusiasts, olive producers and consumers who, divided into ten
working tables, evaluated the best oil-pizza pairing.
The different juries were presented with the “Margherita Speciale” sourdough pizza with fresh tomato and buffalo mozzarella, paired with the winning olive oils from the sensory
selection of the Armonia Competition: three delicate, three medium and three intense.
Evaluators gave judgments on olive oil quality, from excellent (rating 5) to very bad (rating 1), taste/palate persistence and overall oil/pizza harmony.
The evaluation form also asked how much one was willing to pay for an EVOO such as the one tasted, in fractions of a pint, and which dishes were best to pair with each oil
along with any suggestions or tips for use.
The overall quality of the nine oils tasted was good, at times excellent in pairing with the light flavors of the pizza at “Il Gabbiano.”
The official ranking on which will be the best EVOO oil 2022 is being finalized, and will be published and announced soon.
